A FRESHER FINISH

A cleaner approach to the entrance of your home.

Driveways take daily wear from tyres, foot traffic and the weather. Organic growth can collect between blocks and dirt can darken the whole area. A well-planned wash can make suitable surfaces look noticeably fresher.

The right process depends on whether the driveway is block paved, concrete, natural stone, tarmac or another finish. We ask about joints, drainage, previous sealants and access before recommending work.

WHAT WE CAN ASSESS

Common areas and surfaces.

Suitable work, subject to inspection

  • Block paving and many concrete surfaces, subject to condition
  • Suitable natural stone after material assessment
  • Paths and adjoining paved areas as part of a wider visit

Things worth knowing

  • Block paving may need re-sanding once fully dry; confirm whether included.
  • Oil, rust and ingrained staining may not disappear completely.
  • Weak joints or damaged surfaces can be affected by washing and may need repair first.
BEFORE WE QUOTE

A useful quote starts with a few details.

Tell us approximately how large the area is, what it is made of, how it is accessed and whether there are stains, loose joints or existing coatings. Photographs can be arranged separately if needed.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Questions about this service.

Will you re-sand my block paving?

Re-sanding is sometimes appropriate after cleaning; it is not assumed to be included unless listed in the quote.

Can a driveway be cleaned in winter?

Weather, temperatures, daylight and surface conditions affect scheduling and suitability.

Can you remove oil stains?

Some marks improve with the right treatment, but complete removal is not guaranteed.

DRIVEWAY MATERIALS & METHODS

Driveway cleaning that considers the paving beneath the dirt

A driveway is exposed to tyres, rain, leaf litter and everyday foot traffic. What looks like a uniform dirty surface can contain different materials, repairs and patches of weakened joints. The right method starts with the construction rather than the pressure washer setting.

Block paving and jointing

Block-paved driveways can accumulate weeds, algae and silt between individual blocks. Cleaning can remove loose jointing sand, so the quotation should explain whether re-sanding is needed once the surface has dried. Uneven or sunken blocks may require repair rather than cleaning.

Concrete, natural stone and slabs

Hard concrete may tolerate a different approach from softer or weathered natural stone. Previous sealants, surface texture and the condition of any pointing should be checked. A test area can help identify whether marks are contamination or permanent discolouration.

Oil marks, rust and tyre staining

Not every stain lifts with water alone. Oil can soak into porous paving, while rust and tannin marks may need a separate assessment. We do not describe stain removal as guaranteed: the nature and age of a mark affect the realistic result.

PREPARATION & AFTERCARE

What happens during a typical driveway enquiry?

See how enquiries work →

Tell us whether the driveway is block paving, concrete, resin-bound, tarmac or natural stone. Include an approximate area, the number of parking spaces and any areas where pointing or jointing is loose.

Access matters. A parked vehicle, narrow entrance or distant water supply changes the practical arrangement. If the drive slopes toward a road or drain, runoff needs to be considered before cleaning starts.

After cleaning, a driveway can look different while wet. Any additional steps, such as re-sanding compatible block paving or discussing an existing sealer, should be agreed separately rather than assumed to be part of every visit.

SERVICE QUESTIONS

Two more things worth knowing

Can resin-bound driveways be pressure washed?

They can be sensitive to high pressure or unsuitable nozzles. The manufacturer’s care guidance and surface condition should be checked before choosing a gentle, compatible cleaning method.

Will weeds stop growing afterwards?

Cleaning removes existing growth and loose material; it does not permanently prevent seeds from settling in joints. Joint condition and routine maintenance influence regrowth.
